Does it hurt?
Microneedling is a procedure with little to no discomfort. Topical anesthetic is used to numb the skin for about 30 minutes before we begin.
How many treatments will I need?
3-6 Treatments are recommended every 4-6 weeks. Results can be visible after 4 weeks with final results 90 days after your last treatment. The goal and benefit of microneedling is collagen production and skin remodeling. Collagen production continues for up to one year after the final treatment. We recommend a touch up session of one treatment every 6-12 months for maintenance.
Are there any side effects?
- Skin irritation right after the procedure
- Bleeding (uncommon)
- Short-term swelling, redness, and skin flaking (day 2-3)
- Sun sensitivity (right after)
- Erythema (redness of the skin right after on day one)
- Warm, tight, itchy skin will subside within 24- 48 hours. Make-up can be applied after 24 hours of treatment. Aftercare products will also be sent home to aid in healing.
Who Should NOT get Microneedling?
- Pregnant or nursing women
- Those with active skin conditions like eczema, rosacea, or acne
- Individuals treating acne with isotretinoin, or Accutane (must wait one year after Accutane treatment)
- People with psoriasis due to the Koebner phenomenon
- Those with lupus or vitiligo
