Alison Shields DDS
Dr. Shields grew up in Milford, NE. She earned a B.S. in Biology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry and received her DDS degree in 2009.
Dr. Shields and her husband Brett moved to Harlan in June 2009 and have been enjoying small town life with their 5 children. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her family and kids activities.
Dr. Shields is committed to providing the best patient care possible. She enjoys treating patients of all ages and wants to help people reach their best health.
Dental Hygiene Team
Harlan Dental has three dental hygienists on staff to guide and educate you with all of your dental needs. All of our hygienists are licensed by the state of Iowa’s Dental Board and have successfully graduated from accredited dental hygiene programs.
The role of the dental hygienist is to educate and treat patients with all of their periodontal treatment needs, take dental radiographs, perform oral cancer screenings and administer local anesthetic injections (numbing).
Dental hygienists are a pivotal part of your overall care. Our hygienists work as a team with our Dentist to identify any possible issues dentally or systemically that may be occurring. A team approach leads to the best possible care for all of our patients.

Office Cleaning
We strive to provide a clean, well-maintained office for all of our customers and employees. In addition to our standard protocols, the office is thoroughly cleaned each night after the workday is completed. We view a clean office as a statement of our craftsmanship.
