Meet Your Dentist
Dr. Alison Shields, DDS
Dr. Shields grew up in Milford, Nebraska, and earned her B.S. in Biology from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She went on to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry.
Dr. Shields is passionate about providing exceptional care and is dedicated to helping her patients achieve their best overall health — starting with a healthy smile!
Outside of dentistry, she enjoys learning about clean eating, nutrition, and fitness, and is a strong advocate for the connection between oral health and whole-body wellness.

At Harlan Dental, our licensed dental hygienists play a vital role in helping you achieve and maintain excellent oral health. Each member of our hygiene team is licensed by the Iowa Dental Board and has graduated from an accredited dental hygiene program, bringing both skill and compassion to patient care.
Our hygienists do more than clean teeth — they are highly trained professionals who provide periodontal care, take diagnostic dental radiographs, perform oral cancer screenings, and administer local anesthetic when needed. Working closely with Dr. Shields, they take a collaborative, team-based approach to identify potential dental or systemic health concerns, ensuring personalized care tailored to you.
